Facebook remains the dominant player, but other platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Google+ and LinkedIn have something to offer small businesses. I’m not saying we should be on all platforms… we need to be where our ideal customers are hanging out.

Or posting other people’s inspirational content. Then they’re banging their head against the wall when they don’t see results. The hint is in the title – social. BE social! People don’t like to be sold to, and with people exposed to on average 2000 pieces of marketing material every day we need to have a strategy that means our business is seen, heard and remembered. We need to stop with the “please like and share our page” begging mentality and stop trying to ram out products and services down people’s throats. Instead, we need to open dialogue with our followers to engage in two way communications, provide them with information that is helpful and informative and be entertaining. Plus build trust and credibility by being authentic and showing our followers who we are. We need a strategy!

Social Media Management
A common myth is that we don’t have time to engage in social media. But there are fantastic scheduling tools such as Facebook scheduler or Hootsuite that allow you to schedule your posts and reclaim your time. However we still need to make the time to engage with our followers and be available if questions are asked.
